Identidades e territorialidades em romances de José Eduardo Agualusa

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the fusion of the diverse cultures that outcome from the social relations among Portuguese Language Speaking Countries, which are under an ongoing process of identity construction, namely in the novels Nação crioula and As mulheres do meu pai, by the Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa. It is peculiar to the English Language Literatures the reflexive relations around social-cultural manifestations the mark the historical journey of the African countries. This way, one can observe how much the above cited works are inserted in diversified scenery, establishing an everlasting dialogue between Angola´s fiction and history. The alluded novels are included in a socio-historical panel marked by several facts that deeply influenced the cultural formation of the Angolans, or what one can call “angolanity”. These writings have as basis the interaction between present and past as a way of revealing the construction of the Nation. In this sense they collaborate for the affirmation of a multifaceted identity, respecting the cultural coverage of the Angolan people. The development of the present research is the result of the comparative analysis of the above mentioned novels with the goal of identifying elements that signal this cultural multiplicity, constructed up from the union of the lusophone peoples by the means of the interlace of cultures. It becomes essential the emphasis in the relationship established among Brazil – Portugal – Angola, with interest in highlighting the questions of “travelling” and “migration” as elements that enable the acquisition of characteristics of different cultures that influence actively in the decisions and in the personalities of the characters. The reading of the novels will be theoretically based in Hamilton (1999); Hall (2001); Santos (2001); Glissant (2005); Caetano (2007); Haesbaert (2007); Said (2011); Duarte (2012); Gilroy (2012); Bhabha (2013); Woodward (2014); entre outros, among others, and Will search to analyze in which way the crossing made by the characters influences in the constitution of the beings involved in the journey through the African space, for Brazil, and Portugal.
